Overwatch : Oasis First Impressions
By: Jaskot (JazzEFiddle)
Overwatch launched its new map, Oasis, today. The download was only 646 MB, which made for quick access to this new and exciting content. Oasis is a control map with three control points set in the Arabian Desert. Players have access to launch pads to assist with map mobility and you can even be hit and killed by traffic!
Blizzard's official description of Oasis, "Researchers and academics from around the region came together to found a city dedicated to scientific progress without restraints — a monument to human ingenuity and invention. The city and its inhabitants are governed by the Ministries, a collection of brilliant minds who possess many secrets that have attracted the interest of powerful organizations from around the world."
To start off, the map is gorgeous! The points are well-placed and make for a lot of head-to-head combat, as the points themselves are pretty wide-open. This gives you the option to make your way into the point from multiple locations to allow for surprise attacks. The cool thing they added to these points is that they are layered. By that I mean that on some of the points there are lower or upper levels to the point, allowing you to drop in or fly up to attack or retreat. The health packs are fairly spread out through the map and they're even at most spawn points in order to deter spawn campers.
I have only played this map a few times so far but my initial reaction is a 10/10. I honestly cannot find anything that I do not like about it. I'm sure this score and opinion will change as players find ways to use this map to their advantage with their hero of choice.
I will leave you with this last word of wisdom while I boot up another instance of Overwatch: Watch out for that car (it one shots you)!!!
