Five Games Missing from the PlayStation Classic
Recently Sony has unveiled the complete list of games which are going to be included on their PlayStation Classic, which has 20 PS1 games on a plug and play system. While that list has many great games, here are a few gems that got overlooked. Though in some cases, some of these games might not have been added due to having more recent ports that are available, it’s hard to deny how great these games are.
1. Dragon Warrior VII: Though it's now known by it's proper title of Dragon Quest, the seventh installment of the RPG series improved upon the class system that had been in some of the earlier games, adding more depth and customization. While Final Fantasy was pushing the limits of the system in terms of graphics, Dragon Warrior VII was instead keeping things old school, and pushing how much could fit on a PlayStation disk. Make sure to check out our episode of The Legend of Retro to hear more about the game.
2. Legend of Mana: It's hard to describe this action adventure game, because it's part RPG and somehow it's also part beat em up and has elements of a world builder too. Even if the game is hard to describe though, this entry in the Mana series has stunning art and music, and has a story which is strangely episodic. While in one series of missions, you might help a sly salesman find some wares, in another, you might be questing to stop a race of people from going extinct. The game also boasts some of the most fun multiplayer action on the system, though it requires player one to find an ally in the game first.
3. Breath of Fire III: Not only is it the greatest game from it's series, this RPG might just be one of the best role playing games of all time. With an amazing story, a combat system which grants you as much customization as you'd like to put into it, and the ability to transform your character into a dragon, this video game has everything. Recently, I've begun playing it again for my Craig_WK Longplay series, so make sure to check it out!
4. Threads of Fate: If you're a fan of The Legend of Retro, you might already know that I have some problems with the clunky platforming in this action adventure game, but the game absolutely makes up for it. You're able to choose between the spoiled princess Mint, who wields magic, and the mysterious Rue who can transform into monsters, as you go on a quest to hunt down a magical artifact called [The Relic.] What's nice about this game, is that it's not especially long, and has great replay value, due to the two characters being so different.
5. Street Fighter Alpha 3: There isn't much to be said about this fighting game, except that it might just be one of the greatest fighting games ever made. With an insane cast of characters, many different game modes, and incredibly tight controls, this might just be the best two player game on the PlayStation. While the game has one glaring flaw, in it's long load times, in more than makes up for it in every other aspect.
