Live-Action Mega Man Movie in the Works

On October 3rd, Capcom announced that a Live-Action Mega Man movie will begin production in the near future. This announcement comes just one day after the release of Mega Man 11, but has us begging the question; is this a good idea?

Over the last 25 years, we have watched as film adaptations of video games fail to live up to what the fans desire, creating train wreck after train wreck (thanks mostly to Uwe Boll). We are all too familiar with Hollywood taking IPs we love and giving them a treatment similar to that of the voice acting in Mega Man 8.

All that we know so far is the project is currently titled MEGA MAN and directors Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman have signed onto the film. Capcom added in their announcement that it “aims to appeal to a diverse audience, including not only game players but action movie fans as well, with an adaptation that maintains the world of the Mega Man games, while incorporating the grand production and entertainment value that Hollywood movies are known for.”

One thing to consider here is the timing. Last December marked the 30 year anniversary of the series, bringing the Blue Bomber back into our lives with limited edition collectables and toys being released in honor of this milestone. In August, a new animated series Mega Man: Fully Charged debuted with mixed reviews, and as I mentioned earlier, Mega Man 11 hit the shelves October 2nd. There is no question that fans are ready to absorb all the Mega Man content that is currently thrown at us, but in 1½ to 2 years when the movie is finally released, will the hype train be dead, or will we finally get the movie we’ve been waiting for?

What do you think of this announcement? Who would you cast in the role of Mega Man? What classic robot bosses would you like to see in this movie? Let us know all this in the comments below.
